Choices...

James and I have been attending the "Love and Logic" parenting class that is currently being offered at our church. One of the suggestions of "L & L" is that parents should try to give their child choices whenever possible (to help them feel they have more control over their lives). The theory behind this is that you give the child 2 choices, either of which you, as the parent, can live happily with. Then, you both win.

But, since we all know that Aaron walks to the beat of his own drummer, this choices thing has not been working out so well in our family. For instance, last night at church I asked him if he wanted Ms. Jennifer (his teacher) to help him put on his coat, or if he wanted me to help him put on his coat. He looked me straight in the eye and said "Daddy help with coat!" Then, this morning I asked him if he wanted to wear his red coat or his blue coat. He looked me in the eye again and said "fire coat!"

I wonder if they offer a "Love and Illogical" parenting class???

At leasst Aaron is little yet and you can take joy in the things he says and does, and tell people about them!! I've found as Kierstin gets older, I "seeth" at the things she says and does, and I dont' want to tell anyone out of embarassment.
