The Terrible Twos!

The terrible twos have begun at our house! It seems to happen around 6:00 p.m. each day. The other day Aaron was screaming and crying hysterically over nothing. I put him in his crib, where he proceeded in throwing out all his toys, "binkies" and his blanket. So, he was standing in his empty crib and I told him that he could get out when he calmed down. He started screaming hysterically, "I CALM DOWN! I CALM DOWN" When I laughed at the irony, it just made him carry on even more. I couldn't help myself though. It was so funny to hear him screaming about how calm he was!

Aaron's 2-year-old Check-up

We took Aaron for his 2-year-old check-up on Monday. He weighed 25 lbs. 12 oz. which put him in the lower 20 percentile for his age. The doctor said he was surprised that he had gained any weight at all because Aaron hadn't stopped moving since the doctor came in the room! He asked if Aaron was always like that and we said "yes, except when he is sleeping!"
Everything checked out good though. He is right where he should be developmentally and physically. Now, we only have to visit the doctor on a yearly basis.

Aaron's First Fishing Trip

My dad loves to fish. When Aaron was born he brought him a fishing pole and tackle box to the hospital!
This weekend was our first opportunity to go fishing with Paw Paw Mark. The weather was perfect (75 degrees!) So, off we went to the fishing hole!
Paw Paw Mark showed Aaron how to bait the hook. He showed him how to cast the line. Then, he taught him the most important part about fishing...the WAITING. Aaron stood patiently with his pole for a little while. Then, he pulled his line in because he wanted to recast. He waited some more. Then, he pulled the line in again. He waited some more. Then, he went off in search of geese! :)
We didn't catch anything on Aaron's first fishing trip. But, we had a great time trying!

My Baby is 2!!!

Aaron turned 2 on Sunday! It still does not seem possible. I feel like we just brought him home from the hospital. As you can tell, I am having a difficult time with him growing up!

On Friday, Aaron and I went to pick up his "Paw Paw Mark" (my dad) at the airport. Then we went shopping! What fun!

Saturday was an exciting day for Aaron. He got to party with 30+ of his friends and family. We had an "Elmo" party at the Fire Station. The kids played "pin the nose on Elmo" and we all ate cake! I forgot to serve the ice cream, again! (I did the same thing at his party last year). Then, of course, there were the presents...he received all kinds of goodies! From books, videos and puzzles, to clothes, "Little People", and silver dollars, the kid got some great gifts! He even received a toy box and a little table and chair set.

The festivities continued on Sunday! We went to church and then had another round of partying with all the friends/family who had to work on Saturday! I think I overdosed on cake!

Unfortunately, we had to face reality on Monday. James went back to work. Paw Paw Mark flew back to Wisconsin. Aaron and I were left alone...but wait! There were all those new fun presents to play with!

God Made the Stars!

There are times when your child just makes your heart sing. Tonight such a moment occured for me.

It was very cold tonight and I had just gotten Aaron out of the car to come into the house. I looked up into the sky and could see hundreds of stars twinkling. I said "Baby, look at the pretty stars!" He looked up into the sky and said "God made the stars!" I thought my heart was going to burst with pride right then! I love that boy!

"Excuse Me!"

James, Aaron and I went shopping at "Michael's" the other day. Aaron took off running through the store. I let James chase him while I followed at a more leisurely pace. As Aaron was sprinting down the aisle, he almost ran down a group of ladies. When they passed me they were smiling and one of them said "At least he said "excuse me"!

Aaron's Blog

Today I ate some yogurt and toast with butter for breakfast. I helped Mommy clean her bathtub. I painted with my new sidewalk paint. Then, I blew bubbles! I used the potty like a big boy! After that, I took a nice long nap.

What did you do today?

"Happy Feet"

Yesterday we took Aaron to see the movie "Happy Feet". It is a movie about a penguin who dances. We arrived with snacks to keep Aaron occupied. But, once he discovered Mommy's popcorn, he had no interest in goldfish or animal crackers!

The popcorn kept him in his seat for about the first hour minutes of the movie. When it ran out, he no longer felt the need to sit still. James tried to get him to sit in his lap, but he wasn't having any part of it! So, we left and went on home. Frankly, we saw about 30 more minutes of the movie than I thought we would! I guess next time we need to get the "jumbo" popcorn tub!

Story Hour Revisited...

Last night I asked Aaron if he wanted to go to story hour at the library. He said "Aaron listen! Play yellow egg!" (The librarian had yellow shaker eggs last time). So, we decided to give the story hour another try.

Today was much better than our last time, but still not perfect! Once again, Aaron was way outnumbered by the girls. But, he sat quietly and listened to the first story. He watched the girls sing "Where is Thumbkin" and he even paid attention to "Barkley" (the dog puppet). Then, the librarian got out those darn eggs again! After singing and dancing with them, Aaron did not want to put them away! He started fussing and yelling when I made him put the eggs back in their bucket. After that, there was no getting his attention back on the stories and games. So, I had a talk with him and gave him the choice of listening or going home, and he chose going home. So, we left.

I just keep telling myself that we are making progress!

Aaron Took a Bit of a Tumble...

If you are ever feeling down and need something to cheer you up, go watch a toddler's tumbling class! It is guaranteed to make you smile! You might even laugh out loud!

Aaron had his first tumbling class yesterday. He was very excited about it, even though he had no idea what it was. As we arrived at the gym, he suddenly became SHY and clingy! I couldn't believe it! Whose kid was this? He soon overcame the shyness and decided he wanted to explore the gym on his own, instead of listening to Mr. Jack, his tumbling coach.

By the time Aaron really got into the class, it was over! But, in 30 minutes he had stretched, ran around the gym, "jumped" off the springboard, walked on his hands, rolled down the mats, walked the balance beam and jumped on the red "X" on the yellow trampoline! And for 2 days, I have heard "Aaron jump on X!" "Aaron jump on X!" I can't wait until next week when I can take him back and let "Aaron jump on X!"
