Colonial Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg was fun for the whole family. It was great to see some of the historical places that played such an important role in the birth of our country. Aaron enjoyed running around and seeing all the men on horseback and the people dressed in the clothes from the 1700's.

Colonial Water Fountain

Aaron using a "colonial" water fountain!

King's Arms Tavern

While we were in Colonial Williamsburg, we had a great meal at "King's Arms Tavern". This is an actual tavern where men would meet to discuss politics during the American Revolution. Aaron liked it because you had to go upstairs to use the potty! :)

Aaron at the Riverwalk

Aaron really enjoyed being able to run around on the "beach" at the Riverwalk.

Learning to Cook at Yorktown

Aaron got to learn all about cooking at Yorktown. He got to see the chickens and turkeys. Then, he got to carry an egg from the hen house to the kitchen. While in the kitchen, he was able to see how they baked corn bread in colonial times.

Yorktown Victory Center

Jamestown Settlement

In 1607, 13 years before the Pilgrims landed in Massachusetts, a group of 104 English men and boys began a settlement on the banks of Virginia's James River. They were sponsored by the Virginia Company of London, whose stockholders hoped to make a profit from the resources of the New World. The community suffered terrible hardships in its early years, but managed to endure, earning the distinction of being America's first permanent English colony.

We decided to take our family vacation to Virginia this year so that we could visit the Jamestown Settlement on it's 400th Anniversary. We did that, and so much more!!!

The Bug and His Mommy

The Bug and Mommy had a great time exploring Jamestown together!

Colonial Life

Aaron got the chance to experience many aspects of colonial life. He got to see how meat was dried out and he even got to grind some corn!

Colonial Soldiers

At the Jamestown Settlement, we got to see the rebuilt fort. James and Aaron had a great time dressing up as "soldiers"!

Air Show

On Sunday, Pope Air Force Base had it's final air show. James and the Bug went with "Uncle" Aaron and had a great time!

"Mommy, Can You Hear Me?"

Yesterday, I was trying to have a "mommy moment" (aka-using the bathroom). Of course, Aaron had to come in there. I sent him out, but as he was leaving the bathroom he kept asking "Mommy, can you hear me?" Each time he would ask it got fainter and fainter. As I finished up and came out, I started calling for him. I went into his bedroom to look for him and glanced out the window. There, looking in, was a grinning little blond haired boy! He had gone outside and was standing on the front porch looking in at me! I don't know what I am going to do with that boy!

Shaving

A friend of ours recently gave Aaron a "shaving kit". Here is Aaron using it!

Sand and Water Table

"Mowing" the Grass!

Aaron loves to "mow" the grass!

"Southern Living, Southern Living"

In an effort to remain home with Aaron, but make some extra $$$, I recently became a consultant for "Southern Living at Home". As I began to become immersed in the Southern Living culture, I did not realize that Aaron, too, was being immersed. This immersion really dawned on me the other day when he looked at one of the Southern Living boxes and started singing "Southern Living, Southern Living" to the tune of "Jingle Bells"!

Precious Baby Boy

We've been having a difficult time with the "terrible two's" lately. They have been raging pretty strongly at our house! So, when the sweet moments happen, I cherish them even more!

The other night I went to look in on Aaron. (I love to watch him sleeping). He had kicked his blanket off and was sleeping flat on his back. As I bent over to cover him back up he rolled over. I placed the blanket on his back. Without opening his eyes, he softly said "thank you". I love that precious baby boy!

Oh, It's You...

On our way home from visiting Aunt Alicia and Uncle Kevin last weekend, Aaron fell asleep in the car. (They must have really wore him out, because he rarely falls asleep in the car anymore!)

Anyway, about half way home he started to stir. Without opening his eyes, he said "Aunt Alicia?" I very softly said, "No Baby, it's Mommy and Daddy". He opened his eyes and and looked at us. The disappointed look on his face clearly said "Oh! It's you guys" I guess we just aren't as cool as Aunt Alicia!

Bonding

Last weekend, Aaron got to spend some time with his Aunt Alicia and Uncle Kevin. They had pizza and played on the computer on Friday night. Then, on Saturday, they took a trip to the zoo! Aaron rode around in the stroller and named all the animals. After the zoo, they headed to McDonald's for dinner. What a fun time!
